The worst day of my life by Beenish Ameen

The worst day of my life

Happenings in life leave an imprint on our mind depending upon the nature of event and thus these become our memories. Some events remain in memory for quite long. It is not in the control of a human to remove the memories from one’s mind as it is linked with time. Sometime one remembers the painful and sad incidents for longer time as compared to joyful happenings. So do I, 10 years ago, I experienced something unpleasant I could hardly think of.

It was a bright sunny day. As I headed to the school, I noticed something unfamiliar in the atmosphere. However, I entered my school and went straight to my classroom. I was waiting for the assembly bell to ring while putting my bag on the chair but to my surprise, it didn’t ring that day. I noticed my class fellows busy in chatting with each other apparently everything looked fine. My unconscious mind signaled me something unfortunate was about to happen.

It was no longer when our class teacher approached and asked us to keep quiet. On sitting next to the window, I noticed that the students playing in the playground and corridors were sent to their classes leaving it all empty.

Within no time, there was pin-drop silence throughout the school as if nobody existed there. Our class teacher was sitting still lost in deep thoughts. We were shocked to see her   that quiet as she was known as the jolliest among the teaching staff.

After a few minutes, she asked one of our classmates, Huzaifa to recite a few verses of the Holy Quran. As he was reciting, she broke into tears leaving us numb.

It was then   we came to know that our school van full of students met an accident while passing over the bridge and fell into the Canal having heavy flow of water. I turned my head in a trance to see the strength of our class less than the usual. I found my fear to become a terrible reality. We were told that the army troops and rescuers were trying their best to handle the situation but sadly none of the students survived. Even the dead bodies of some students were not found but few of their belongings were found.

It was bitter reality to believe and without having any trance of them. Their stationary reminded us of them that were now covered with their blood. The pain I feel for them is still as heavy as it was for me 10 years ago .May their souls rest in peace!
